Spendid article, Esther, and 100.0 % on target.
Isn't it something that Cooke responded as he did? I guess he gets paid to fail to see the writing on the wall.
Mariotti was the best sports columnist this city has seen since Lincicome at the Trib and probably before. He was not a homer, to be sure.

    Great article Esther,

Like many Chicagoans, I would love to see JAY come crawling back on his belly to the Sun-Times after a difficult six months of trying to sling his stuff to SI.COM and ESPN.COM. I can picture the words now, "I am sorry I left, I want my 300K a year job back, I want to be loathed and despised again by the Chicagoland area!"

To everybody in the newspaper bizz: Welcome to the club.

I've been involved in several dying companies, trades andor industries. The most surprising thing to me is how long the writing can be on the wall before most people pay any attention to it.

In many cases, the people at the top, those million$ executives who you would assume have the foresight & vision needed to steer giant enterprises are the main cause of the crash. The road curves, but, in keeping with the proper conservative pedigree that got them where they are, they go straight.
