Fantastic reporting of an event with keen observation from a trained professional! This was wonderful to read, Esther.

Luis Gutierrez would never get elected Governor. Nor Senator or any other state-wide office for that matter. Why? Because he does not have anything to offer the general voter of Illinois. Yes, the day will come when we will have a Hispanic governor, but it won't be Luis, nor will it be any of the current crop of embarrasing Hispanic politicians who do not have the broad appeal to attact the voting population across the entire state. The day we have a Hispanic Governor or Senator is the day when we have a great politician -- educated, well spoken, respected -- who happens to be Hispanic.
